Emma Bunton has admitted that she is glad social media didn't exist when she found fame with the Spice Girls.
The pop sensation - who became a household name as Baby Spice in the girl band in the 90s - says she was lucky to have privacy when she started out in showbiz at the age of 19.
Mother of two Emma, 44, also explained that she is not sure how she would have coped if she had to deal with the likes of Facebook and Instagram at a young adult in the public eye.
Opening up to Clemmie Telford on the Honestly podcast, the musician candidly said: "I was just 19 when it [the band] started and I don't know how I would have dealt with the social media and the pictures back then."
Reflecting on the first time she noticed a fan capturing her image, without her permission, Emma revealed: "I remember the first time I was out with friends in a club and I saw someone with a camera phone and they took a picture of me."
She added: "I thought 'Oh my goodness, that's it now, that's privacy done and there's no boundaries'. That frightened me."
Explaining that she knows being a star means more attention, the blonde added that there are times when she wants to be free from prying eyes.
"In the celebrity world, of course you're out there," she said.
"But there's those moments where you'd like to have time with your friends and not have someone being intrusive, but that went in that moment."
Emma also noted that she recalls how different gigs were before fans had mobile phones.
She told: "Our first (Spice Girls) tour was incredible.
"I remember looking out to the audience and seeing faces. Now when you do a tour you just see phones. I personally really hope that you're also taking this in."
Sharing that she is not immune to the trappings of technology and social media herself, she added: "I do the same. I go and I take pictures and I think 'Hold on, I'm not processing this in my mind as a memory'."
Emma continued: "Being a Spice Girl then and now would have been very different."
During the conversation Emma also hinted that she is keen to welcome baby number three.
Proving she is broody, she gushed: "Every time I see a baby, my ovaries skip, and my other half is desperate (for another)," she said.
"But I've had two healthy, beautiful babies."
