Emirates passenger dies after plane to Dubai diverts to Kerala

An Emirates flight diverted to Kerala ( Flightradar24 )

An Emirates flight to Dubai had to make an emergency landing in Kerala when a passenger became sick and later died.

The 59-year-old Indonesian man, onboard flight EK 359, was flying from Jakarta to Emirates’ home city of Dubai.

The plane was diverted to Cochin International Airport in Kerala, southern India, due to the medical emergency.

According to the Khaleej Times, the passenger began to show “uneasiness” onboard, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

It’s understood he died of a heart attack.

Local police are believed to be conducting an inquest.

An Emirates spokesperson confirmed to The Independent: “Emirates can confirm that flight EK 359 from Jakarta to Dubai on 1 February was diverted to Cochin due to a medical emergency.

“The flight re-departed with approximately one hour delay. Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused to our passengers for the delay.”

Last month The Independent reported that a man had died onboard a Hong Kong to Auckland flight. The plane diverted to Cairns, Australia.
