Emirates A380 aborts landing at Glasgow Airport - watch as huge jet approaches runway

Footage has emerged of the moment a huge Emirates A380 aircraft was forced to abort its landing at Glasgow Airport - within touching distance of the tarmac.

The world's largest commercial passenger plane first arrived in Glasgow - to much fanfare - in April of this year, flying the Emirates airline route between our city and Dubai.

The plane weights in at 575 tonnes, with a wingspan of 79.8 metres - twice the height of Glasgow Cathedral.

It's also a favourite for plane spotters, with dozens of eagle-eyed Glaswegians regularly seen at the perimeter fences of the airport, hoping to catch a glance of the mammoth jet, with two daily Emirates flights arriving in Glasgow, at 12.45pm and 7.45pm.

That's what Judith Currie found herself doing yesterday, as she watched the giant jumbo come in to land ... only to watch it pull up again at the last moment.

And Judith caught the dramatic moment on camera, as other shocked onlookers watch on.

Thankfully, after circling, the plane came in to land safely, shortly afterwards.

It's certainly not an experience we'd enjoy too much if we were onboard!
