Eminem opens ‘Mom's Spaghetti’ restaurant inspired by his own song lyrics

Eminem’s restaurant Mom’s Spaghetti has officially launched – and the rapper even turned up to serve its first customers.

The 48-year-old American rapper and record producer's long-awaited pasta joint has finally opened for business.

Created in partnership with Union Joints Restaurant Group, the permanent venue brings to life one of the songwriter’s best-known lyrics: His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”

These lines are from the iconic song ‘Lose Yourself’, a popular hip hop hit that features on the soundtrack to Eminem’s film ‘8 Mile’, and remained at number one for 12 consecutive weeks.

Located on 2131 Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit, USA, Mom’s Spaghetti consists of a walk-up window in an alleyway, as well as a small bodega space with limited customer seating.

A number of Eminem fans turned up for the grand opening at 5pm, with the queue said to have lined several blocks by the time it opened.

The infamous rapper was also present at the official launch.

The concept was originally launched in 2017 as a pop-up at Detroit music venue The Shelter, and later resurfaced alongside Eminem's 2018 performances at Coachella, Firefly and Governor’s Ball, as well as to deliver food to frontline caregivers during the pandemic.

The menu at the new bricks-and-mortar venue is heavily pasta-based, including ‘Spaghetti’ for $9 (approx. £6.67), ‘Spaghetti w/ Balls’ for $12 (£8.91) or ‘w/ Vegan Balls’ for $14 (£10.39), and ‘S’ghetti Sandwich’ for $11 (around £8.17).

As for drinks, there’s ‘Pop’ or water to choose from, each for $3 (approx. £2.23).

The new dining spot also features a retail space above it called ‘The Trailer’, which sells limited edition and dead stock collectibles, plus memorabilia from the Eminem archives.

A statement from Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, reads: “We’ve had a lot of fun putting this project together with the folks at Union Joints, and the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.

“The previous pop-ups were really a test for us to determine whether there was enthusiasm for a regularly-occurring Mom’s Spaghetti spot that would be open all year long.

“We are really pleased to announce the arrival of the walk-up restaurant and adjacent upstairs store, called The Trailer, where fans can experience a uniquely-curated environment and obtain merch and other items from Eminem and his new pasta operation.”
