Eminem at Hampden and 12 other brilliant Glasgow photos that'll take you back to 2003

As years go, 2003 was a memorable one for Scotland's largest city as we ushered in the fourth year of the new millennium.

There were plenty of great moments throughout the year for pop and rock fans, with Avril Lavigne performing at the Barrowlands, while the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Westlife and the Red Hot Chili Peppers all took to the stage at the SECC.

In June superstar rap acts Eminem, Xzibit and Cypress Hill performed at Hampden Park for what's regarded by many as the greatest hip hop show in Glasgow's history.

July meanwhile saw the likes of Darius, the Sugababes and Girls Aloud all appear at the HEBS sponsored Live and Loud concert at Hampden alongside a whole host of other top stars.

The city also welcomed a brand new venue - the Carling Academy (now the O2 Academy) in Laurieston. Housed in the former New Bedford Cinema, the 2,500-capacity venue at Eglinton Street provided a shot in the arm to Glasgow's already vibrant music scene.

Politically, there was much ado about Iraq, as the UK announced its intention to proceed with military operations. Glasgow, like many other major UK cities, witnessed huge anti-war demos in the city centre, with thousands of people taking to the streets to make their feelings known.

Football-wise, it was definitely a memorable year for Glasgow's big two. Rangers under Alex McLeish lifted a historic domestic treble, while Martin O'Neill's Celtic stars made it all the way to the UEFA Cup Final in Seville, only to be pipped at the final hurdle by Jose Mourinho's Porto.
