Emily Ratajkowski has defended her friend against body-shaming trolls after their bodies were compared on Instagram.
Earlier this week, Ratajkowski shared a photograph on Instagram of her and a friend lying on a beach in swimwear.
The picture was shared to promote the model’s swimwear line, Inamorata, a brand which “embraces the full spectrum of the female form”, as is stated on the company’s website.
Several Instagram users left unkind comments underneath the post, some of whom surmised that Ratajkowski had shared the photograph to make her body look “better” than her friend’s.
“You specifically posted a photo, so that it was clear that your body is better than the body of your friend???” one person commented.
“She surely would have known people would write these disgusting comments,” another remarked.
“Why would she subject her friend to this humiliation and online bullying by posting this?”
Ratajkowski promptly jumped to her friend’s defence, leaving a response to a comment underneath the Instagram picture.
“I love my friends body and both her and I think she looks great here! And I’m proud she’s rocking my suits,” the We Are Your Friends actor wrote.
“All these haters are crazy. Just because you’re used to seeing one body type on the Internet doesn’t mean that that’s the only kind that should be considered ‘beautiful’.”
A number of Ratajkowski’s Instagram followers echoed her sentiments in the comments underneath the post.
“It’s not about liking one over the other. It’s about them both liking themselves,” one remarked.
“Funny thing that the people trying to say that she’s body-shaming her friend are the ones who ARE ACTUALLY body-shaming,” someone else wrote.
Ratajkowski also posted a response to the body-shaming incident on Twitter, sharing the photo on the social media platform alongside the Ariana Grande-inspired caption: “Thank u, next.”
