Emily Maitlis shares further details of Prince Andrew interview in Tatler cover story

BBC news reporter Emily Maitlis is the cover star of Tatler's September issue and has shared behind-the-scenes stories from her biggest interviews of the year.

Maitlis touched on her BAFTA-nominated Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew, where the Duke discussed his connection to Jeffery Epstein.

The journalist said that the Duke of York was "very pleased" with how the interview went and said he even gave her a tour of Buckingham Palace.

“He took us on a tour of the extraordinary corridor of Buckingham Palace, he pointed out the statues, the staircases and where the Queen has her audiences with prime ministers," she explained.

Maitlis added that Prince Andrew told her: “Next time you come, we’ll talk about Prince Albert. He was the entrepreneur of the family.”

In the wake of the interview, Prince Andrew withdrew from all public duties as a member of the Royal Family.

Maitlis explained she did not have time to think about the interview's impact as it was happening: "You’re so determined not to miss a beat, to check with yourself you haven’t used the wrong tone or got something stupendously wrong, that actually you’re not sitting there grinning, thinking, ‘Hahaha! That’s amazing!’”
