Emily in Paris fashion: Where to shop Lily Collins' outfits for less

When the creator of Sex and the City, Darren Star, reunited with the HBO show's legendary costume designer Patricia Field on a new show, the results were bound to be involve some high octane fashion.

Netflix series Emily in Paris, which features Lily Collins as an American social media manager who transfers to her company's headquarters in the French capital, is a ten-episode race through Emily's adventures learning the language, culture and faux pas of her new adopted land, all while sporting some outfits that are so wrong, they're somehow right.

Emily's style is akin to a slightly less refined version of Carrie Bradshaw, but her outré ensembles have nonetheless caused a stir on the Internet this week.

Field conceived Emily's looks in collaboration with French costume designer Marylin Fitoussi, with the pair drawing a lot of inspiration from cult Audrey Hepburn 1951 film An American in Paris. The pair winked to Hepburn in one oh-so-chic scene in the series, where we see Emily wearing a 1950s-esque off-the-shoulder black dress by Christian Siriano, which nods to the late actresses' pared-back style.

Emily's overall outfits might not be to your taste, but there's no doubting her sartorial chutzpah, and in homage to her ballsy fashion, here are the fashion lessons we can all learn from the show.

Sunshine brights

(Netflix)

In the first episode, Emily steps out in an old sunshine yellow Ganni dress, which she pairs with some vertiginous Manolo Blahnik Chaos black sandals. Temperatures may prove too nippy to rock a slip dress sans jacket at the moment, but a pop of citrusy goodness underneath chunky autumnal knits is a perfect way to bring some sunshine to the colder months.

Chanel and berets: is there anything more French? (Netflix)

Is there any combination deemed more quintessentially French than a classic quilted Chanel bag and a red beret? Apparently not in Emily's eyes, particularly not when we meet her in episode 3 when she's wearing a checkered blazer by Meghan Markle favourite, Veronica Beard. Beard's sustainably-made blazer may set you back a cool £300, but there's much to be learned from Emily's tonal dressing here. Keep checks monochrome and add a splash of red (or any other hue!) if you're really wanting to channel Emily.

When it comes to winter layering, do as Emily does and don't be afraid to embrace bold pops of colour. Her green Chanel jacket (which retailed for just north of £5,000) might be out of your price range, and her Staud bucket bag might now be sold out, but there's plenty more where that came from. The key takeaway? More is more!
