Emily Atack 'locked-in theatre' amid reports of 'people with machetes' outside

Emily Atack has been praised after her debut stand-up gig ended with everyone being locked inside the theatre amid reports of 'people with machetes' outside.

A police incident outside The Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham saw the I'm A Celebrity star's first foray into stand-up comedy end in dramatic fashion.

The 29-year-old former Inbetweeners actor was praised by audience members for her calm approach, after they were all kept inside as the incident was dealt with.

Emily's one woman show, titled 'Talk Thirty To Me' was well received by those there, who praised the actor on social media for her performance and calmness, as she returned to the stage to reassure the audience about the events unfolding outside.

One theatre-goer told The Sun: "There was a lock-in due to a police incident outside the theatre. Reports of people nearby seen with Machetes."

Tweeting after the incident, Emily told her 283,000 followers: "Birmingham.. I can’t tell you how special you made my first show. What a wonderful audience.

"I laughed (and almost cried) with you all. I’m sorry for that scare at the end, how awful?! hope you all got home safe! LOVE YOU ALL!"

There was plenty of love for Emily in return, with one replying: "You handled a difficult situation very well and professionally - thanks for a good show."

Another wrote: "Ahhh was a bit of climax to the show..but nothing was more fun interesting and hilarious than your show..thank for a fabulous evening"

There was plenty of praise for the budding comic, with many praising Emily's comedy skills.

Emily's biggest admirer was her mum Kate Robbins, who supported her daughter for her debut performance.

Kate said: ""What kind of non biased comments can a mother say about her daughter’s show??

"I watched @EmAtack in  ‘Talk Thirty To Me’ and laughed aloud with the sold out audience.

"Couple of impressions chucked in, not too many, great observations + warmth. Feeling proud doesn’t describe it!"

It is a big couple of days for Emily as she follows her stand-up debut with the opportunity to replace Holly Willoughby on This Morning.

She will be presenting the ITV daytime show alongside her I'm A Celebrity campmate John Barrowman, on Friday, as Phil and Holly take a break.

Emily and John have formed a strong friendship since the jungle and they have been warned to keep their 'naughty behaviour' under control, once the cameras start rolling.

Speaking to The Sun previously, John said they had been told: "If you want to be naughty, you can be naughty - but within the limitations.

"We're not going to do anything stupid or outrageous because we know the time slot.

"It's not after 9pm, it's in the morning, so there's restrictions that we have."
