FC Nantes have postponed their Coupe de France tie away at Entente SSG with former striker Emiliano Sala feared dead.

Sala was on board a light plane which disappered over the English Channel as he travelled to Wales to join up with his new team-mates at Cardiff on Monday night.

He was travelling from Nantes in Brittany after clinching a club-record £15million move to the Welsh club.

Guernsey police say the flight left on Monday evening from Nantes en route to Wales with two people aboard. Police resumed the search on Tuesday morning.

A statement from Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman earlier on Tuesday said: “We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night.

The 28-year-old spent four years at FC Nantes, scoring 12 goals in 19 league games this term, and posted an image of himself alongside team-mates from the Ligue 1 club ahead of his scheduled flight to Cardiff.

In a chilling post, he wrote: "The last goodbye."

Nantes will reportedly play their French Cup fixture against Entente SSG on Sunday.
