Emiliano Martinez provides Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a reason to sign new Arsenal contract

Arsenal goalkeeper has said that players will not want to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, due to the progression that the team has already made under Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard arrived at Arsenal at the end of 2019 after a disappointing start to the season under Unai Emery.

Despite missing out on European football through their league position, the Gunners can still qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup when they take on Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Arteta has been praised for the work he has done during his first managerial job, and Martinez believes the future is bright under the former player.

“We all talk about how good he is. I don’t think anyone would want to leave,” he said .

“Why would you leave when you know something good is going to happen? It’s happening. We didn’t finish the season how we wanted but we are in a final and if we’re able to win it then we’re in Europe.

“Many players would think, ok in Europe we’ve got Arteta and a year of work. We can reach good things here. He can be really influential in signings and players.”

One of the players linked with an exit is club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker is out of contract at the end of next season, with Arsenal working hard to try and convince the 31-year-old to sign a new deal at the club.

But Martinez had no doubt when questioned about his captain.

“Even Auba,” he added. “I don’t know what he’s thinking but he knows that he’s got someone leading the team which is going to be competitive next season.”

Arsenal finished the season in eighth place in the Premier League table, but have the chance to make it a successful end to the campaign by lifting the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
