Emiliano Martinez on his battle with Bernd Leno for Arsenal's number one jersey

Emiliano Martinez has spoken of the benefits of playing regular first team football.

The Argentinian stopper spent the second half of last season on loan with Reading but has featured for Unai Emery's side during their pre-season campaign so far.

The 26-year-old started the 3-0 friendly victory over Fiorentina, and speaking to Arsenal's official website, he spoke of his satisfaction with both his and the team's display.

Martinez said: "The more games I play, the more confidence I get.

"I managed to keep a clean sheet and me and Bernd (Leno) played 45 minutes each, both keeping a clean sheet in the win. I'm delighted with that.

"I personally feel great. The team is looking sharp, we're moving the ball really quickly, we're nice and solid at the back, so bring on Real Madrid.

"It was quite hard at the beginning so we thought we needed to be on the ball, move it quickly and I think it was like 37 degrees with 90 per cent humidity.

"We were not prepared for this. We knew it was going to be hot but in the warm-up we thought, 'Wow, this is hot'. But the boys did really well, we kept the ball well."
