Emiliano Martinez explains Mikel Arteta's "animal" demand to Arsenal players vs Leeds

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez says a "really angry" Mikel Arteta urged Gunners players to "run like a wolf" in order to turn around their FA Cup tie against Leeds United.

The Yorkshire side dominated for large periods of the first half of the third round clash at the Emirates Stadium, but they were unable to take their chances.

The form of Martinez was one of the key reasons for that, and the Argentinean goalkeeper then saw his teammates improve in the second period, with Reiss Nelson grabbing the game's only goal to earn a 1-0 win.

"I think they (Leeds) were winning every 50/50 and they were just getting the ball back very soon," Martinez told the Arsenal website .

"They were pressing really hard and it was very difficult to get out how we did in training but in the second half, the manager said, ‘If we don't win 50/50s, we are going to lose the game.’

"The lads went out there and, the gaffer says we need to ‘run like a wolf’ and have that animal side to us.

"I thought we did really well, we ran like we should have from the first minute. We’re delighted for the win and we move on."

Martinez went on to admit that Arteta was furious with his side at the break.

"He was really angry but that’s what we need," continued the goalkeeper.

"We can’t switch off after a good win against Manchester United and I think we did in the first five minutes, we did switch off and that shouldn’t happen especially at home. "

The Gunners will now face a trip to Bournemouth in the fourth round at the end of January.
