Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2021: Max Verstappen fastest in final practice session

Max Verstappen laid down an impressive marker ahead of qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix by finishing fastest in final practice.

The Dutchman, who broke down in Friday's concluding session in Imola, bounced back to finish 0.456 seconds clear of McLaren's Lando Norris, with Lewis Hamilton third.

Valtteri Bottas completed a practice double for Mercedes on Friday, but the Finn ended the morning running in eighth.

The Dutchman is bidding to avenge defeat to Hamilton at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix last month.

Hamilton opened his bid for an unprecedented eighth world championship with a defensive masterclass to keep Verstappen at bay and win in the Gulf.

But in terms of outright pace, Mercedes had few answers for Verstappen and Red Bull at the curtain raiser.

However, the black machines appear in better shape in Imola after completing a one-two finish in both of Friday’s sessions.
