Emile Smith Rowe turned down the chance to sign for Barcelona to continue his development at Arsenal.

Rowe, 18, has broken into Unai Emery’s first-team this season, notching three goals in his six appearances for the senior side.

The Croydon youngster was rewarded with a new long-term contract at the Emirates during the summer and his development in north London has not gone unnoticed.

Barcelona were among the clutch of clubs eager to prise him away during his progression through the club’s academy but Smith Rowe insists he never once felt the urge to leave.

"I used to watch that Barcelona team, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, when they were in their prime," Smith Rowe told Sky Sports.

"So when I found out that they were interested of course I was very happy, but I can't explain to you how much I feel that Arsenal is the right club for me."

Smith Rowe is set to miss Arsenal’s Europa League dead rubber due to a minor hip injury.
