Emile Smith Rowe is already showing Mikel Arteta that he can be Arsenal's dream number 10

Emile Smith Rowe was Huddersfield's standout player as the Terriers beat Bristol City 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Arsenal midfielder provided an assist for former Gunners teammate Chris Willock to open the scoring, before winning the penalty for Hudderfield to score their second of the evening.

The 19-year-old joined the Terriers on a temporary deal during the January transfer window in a bid to get some invaluable game time and experience after making just two Premier League appearances in the first half of the season.

Already, the midfielder has made his mark in the Championship with some impressive performances and Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley was quick to heap praise on the teenager after the win over Bristol City.

Mikel Arteta praises his team after playing three games in seven days

"Emile Smith Rowe is just a really lovely player, isn't he?" he said.

"It's not easy being a manager because at the moment he's not ready to play the three-game week, so we had to be really cautious on Saturday [against Swansea].

"He obviously had a loan at Leipzig last year and picked up an injury and maybe there was a consideration that they didn't quite manage his minutes and his load and the periodisation of his training.

"So we're being very careful and cautious and protective because we know if we can get him on the pitch more often than not he's going to be a very good player for us.

"He looked a top player, didn't he. He has that ability to find space; he could find space in a telephone box; he speeds the play up for you and draws and commits and I think it would have been a brilliant performance if he had scored.

"I am always going to be demanding of him because, to me, he is a Premier League player so I have to treat him like that and demand Premier League standards from him - in training and in games, day in and day out.

"It was a really good performance."

Examiner Live gave the midfielder their first nine out of 10 rating this season for his performance, and reporter Steven Chicken was left blown away by the teenager's display.

He told football.london: "After being left out of the starting line-up over the last two games, he ran the show and was the best player on the pitch alongside former Arsenal man Chris Willock, who scored the first goal from a Smith Rowe assist.

"Smith Rowe then won the penalty for Town's second with a brilliant run through the middle that saw a Bristol City defender clatter him to the floor - and he could have added a third goal for Town with a left-footed volley that flew not too far over the bar.

"This lad is Premier League quality already."
