Arsenal midfelder Emile Smith Rowe suffered a concussion in his team's 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
He was replaced by Bukayo Saka prior to the half-time whistle at the Emirates Stadium with the Gunners already 1-0 ahead through a goal scored by Gabriel Martinelli.
Sources close to the player have confirmed to football.london that Smith Rowe suffered a concussion and no damage to his head. Having been assessed by the club's medical staff he was driven home.
Last season, Smith Rowe left north London on loan to join Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and struggled to make an impact due to injury problems.
The 19-year-old made his eighth senior appearance for Arsenal in the Carabao Cup victory after having made his debut in September 2018 in a Europa League win over Vorskla Poltava.
Smith Rowe had to be stretchered off after a clash of heads with Forest goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.
Medical staff assessed him on the pitch before he was replaced by Saka.
Arsenal rallied despite losing the talented playmaker at the end of the opening 45 minutes to score four second half goals.
Joe Willock grabbed a brace while Rob Holding also scored with Martinelli capping off a 5-0 victory with his second goal of the game.
During his loan spell in Germany, Smith Rowe made three appearances for the Leipzig first team.
He is tipped to follow Reiss Nelson and Willock in making a greater impact in Unai Emery's senior side as one of the most highly-rated individuals in a new generation of Arsenal academy products.
