Emile Smith Rowe follows in Cesc Fabregas footsteps after Arsenal heroics in Watford win

Emile Smith Rowe was the hero for Arsenal once again as his third Premier League goal in as many games handed the Gunners all three points against Watford.

The 21-year-old scored the only goal of the game shortly before the hour mark, as his shot from outside the area found the bottom right corner.

Smith Rowe has been outstanding for Arsenal this season since inheriting the no.10 shirt, and his form has been a major influence in the Gunners' dramatic turn of form following a poor start.

His excellent performance against Watford saw him match a record held by only three other Arsenal stars, including former midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Smith Rowe became the fourth Arsenal player at the age of 21 or under to score in three straight Premier League games, following in the footsteps of former stars Nicolas Anelka, Jose Antonio Reyes and most recently Fabregas.

Despite being the league's biggest spenders in the summer with a £150million overhaul on six new signings, it has been Mikel Arteta's young stars that have shone most brightly this season.

Bukayo Saka and Smith Rowe have been excellent for Arsenal this season, and are the only members of Arteta's squad who are yet to miss a game in the Premier League this season.

Both were on target in Arsenal's emphatic 3-1 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby, that appeared to spark the Gunners' dramatic turnaround, and they have continued to remain unbeaten since.

Smith Rowe's performances have even led to speculation that he could be called up to Gareth Southgate's senior England squad, but the 21-year-old was not selected this time around as domestic duties come to a halt ahead of the international break.

The midfielder spoke about his omission after the victory against Watford, and said: "It is important I just keep my head down and working hard I am happy whoever I get called up for."

Smith Rowe then reflected on his sides 1-0 victory, and said: "It was a difficult game for us today. Watford are a strong team. Happy we got the three points.

"I am happy [to score] I have been practising during training. It is really special and doing it at home and in front of our fans is even better. We have been working really hard, really important we got three points today.

"I think we always believed in ourselves and each other. It was just about coming together as a team and we are such a family."
