Emile Heskey’s son scores brace as Man City Under-18s progress in FA Youth Cup

Jaden Heskey, the son of former England striker Emile, found the net twice in two minutes for Manchester City Under-18s in their 3-0 FA Youth Cup third-round win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.

The substitute bagged both second-half goals after Will Dickson had put the hosts ahead on 42 minutes. Heskey fired in from the narrow angle on 78 minutes as he latched onto a shot that had been parried before powering home a stinging drive just over 60 seconds after the restart.

The match had started rather bizarrely after the officials realised they had to change their tops after their black jerseys clashed with the dark blue away strip of Blackburn. But that didn’t distract Heskey from notching his third and fourth goals of the season.

The 16-year-old striker came on as a late substitute in the academy 's 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United during November’s derby in Premier League 2, which is now an Under-21s competition after being lowered from Under-23s at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, he’s racked up seven games in the Under-18s Premier League meaning he now has a greater average than a goal-every-two-games at the age level this term.

Brighton and Hove Albion are up next in the FA Youth Cup for the Under-18s with City handed a home tie at the Academy Stadium in January. The win over Blackburn was the Under-18s’ final game before their winter break, the season resuming on January 7 when they welcome Newcastle.

City are currently second behind Sunderland in the Premier League Under-18s North table after lifting the trophy for the last two seasons. They have scored the most goals in the league so far (37) having won six of their 11 matches, drawing another three.
