Emi Martinez and Ainsley Maitland-Niles name Arsenal's man of the match against Leeds

Arsenal duo Emiliano Martinez and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have named stand-in captain Alexandre Lacazette as their man of the match in the FA Cup third round victory over Leeds United.

The Gunners made it safely through to the fourth round of the competition after a 1-0 win over the Championship side. Although the game didn't come without it's warnings with Arsenal lucky to go into the half-time break on level terms.

A much improved second-half performance saw Reiss Nelson net the only goal of the game which would see them progress to the next stage of the tournament.

Following the match, Arsenal asked fans on Instagram for their man of the match.

Mikel Arteta's simple response to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rumours

The post prompted replies from both goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and wideman Ainsley Maitland-Niles, both of whom were in agreement as to who should be given the award.

"@Lacazettealex for me," was the reply from Martinez, while Maitland-Niles wrote: "Lacaaaaaaa @lacazettealex."

The French striker wore the captain's armband for the match, due to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suffering from illness.

Following the match, Lacazette, who was awarded the man of the match award, spoke of head coach Mikel Arteta's half time reaction that prompted an improved second half performance from the team.

"He shout a lot," he said in an interview with BBC Sport. "He was not happy because we knew they were going to play like this and we didn't respect what he said.

"But for the second half it was better."

Arsenal will now travel to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the competition with the tie taking place on the weekend of 24th-26th January.
