Emergency worker assaulted and weapon seized during Southport festival operation

An emergency worker was assaulted while police officers were helping out at a festival event being held in Southport.

Officers saw what appeared to be a drugs transaction from a vehicle while they were in the area for the open air 90s 'Save the Rave' festival being held at Victoria Park.

Officers detained both the men and after a search suspected cocaine and cannabis were seized, along with a blade found next to the driver of the vehicle.

Subsequently address searches were carried out where a large amount of cocaine and cannabis was recovered, along with scales and packaging.

The two men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and cocaine. One of the men was also arrested for assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a bladed article, and obstructing police.

Both the men remain in custody for questioning.

During the operation in the Southport area yesterday (Saturday), an adult woman was detained and found in possession of a quantity of Class A Drugs and was interviewed in regards to the offence.

A juvenile boy was stopped and found in possession of a quantity of Class B Drugs and will be interviewed at a later date.

Alcohol was also seized from under age youths believed to be causing anti-social behaviour around the festival area.
