Emergency warning downgraded as threat eases for bushfire burning in Parkerville in Perth's hills

Firefighters have made progress fighting a bushfire threatening lives and homes in Parkerville, in Perth's hills.

An emergency warning was issued on Thursday afternoon after the blaze broke out in dense bush close to homes and businesses in the Shire of Mundaring.

That alert has since been downgraded as firefighters managed to control the movement of the fire.

It is now controlled but not contained.

The ABC understands an aged care home in the area had been impacted by the fire.

Residents were evacuated but there has been some damage to property and vehicles on site.

The fire was called in at 3:36pm with reports of burning bush near Coppin Road and Thomas Road.

Authorities' level of concern escalated quickly and an emergency warning was issued shortly afterwards with people told to evacuate.

More than 32 fire fighting vehicles were sent to the scene along with aerial support.

It comes after Perth recorded a third consecutive day of temperatures above 40 degrees.

A heatwave has been declared for the city, with another two days of temperatures above 40 degrees forecast.

Parkerville experienced once of the state's worst bushfire disasters in 2014 when a power pole on a private property fell and sparked a blaze that went on to destroy 57 homes.
