Emergency crews will conduct practice sessions on Lake Macquarie this morning - and they are asking people not to mistakenly report the increased activity to Triple Zero.

Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie, the Fire and Rescue NSW team from Toronto, the Rural Fire Service's fire boat crew and water police will take part in the drills for about three hours from 9am at Marmong Point Marina.

They will participate in practice scenarios including a reported vessel fire at a fuel wharf, injured people in the water, people stranded on a jetty near fire and people stranded on a vessel that has caught fire and drifted from a fuel wharf.

Four people will play the roles of hurt people on jetties and boats, while two dummies will be used to represent those injured in the water.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters will work from shore while RFS members will go onto the water as part of the exercise.

The Search and Rescue Centre at Swansea Heads will coordinate communication between the services during the training run.
