West Lothian locals urged to come forward as emergency testing centre opens in Covid-19 struck town

An emergency testing centre has opened in a Covid-19 struck West Lothian town.

The community testing centre in Livingston opens on March 22, and the public are asked to come forward and help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Four areas in Livingston have now entered into the second highest zone on the PHS heat map in recent days, with between 200 and 399 cases per 100,000 of the population.

Livingston Village and Eliburn South recorded 21 cases over the past week, Craigshill had 23, Deans returned 11 new cases and Knightsridge had 13.

Now hundreds of residents in Livingston are asked to come forward and stop the virus from spreading further.

The mobile testing centre in Livingston is located at Carmondean Community Centre and is operated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Only residents who do not have Covid-19 symptoms can book a test.

There is currently another emergency centre in Whitburn that is capable of testing 500 people per day.

The Whitburn centre has been open for the past two weeks and stops operating on Sunday March 21.

All tests must be booked in advance at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test, with the centre open from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Appointments for the following day will be available from 6pm the evening before.
