Emergency services were called to a gas leak - and found a £500,000 cannabis farm

A massive cannabis farm has been raided - after the fire service were called to reports of a gas leak.

Police said the huge haul of plants is believed to be worth in the region of £500,000.

It's now set to be destroyed.

In total, revealed police in Bury , 600 plants were seized.

And it was only by sheer chance that the cannabis farm was uncovered.

GMP revealed police were called by the fire service to reports of a gas leak in the Wash Lane area of Bury shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday.

A force spokesman said: "Officers searched the premises at the source of the leak and discovered a large cannabis farm, with more than 600 cannabis plants and an estimated value of over £500,000.

"No arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing."

Pc Joanne Irish, of GMP's Bury borough, said: "The supply and use of drugs on our street will not be tolerated, and a full investigation has been launched to find those responsible.

"Our biggest weapon in the fight against drugs is information from the public, so if you saw anything suspicious then please get in touch with us.
