Emergency services stage dramatic rescue of missing person from remote island on River Clyde

Police and emergency services teamed up to stage the dramatic rescue of a missing person from an island in the middle of the River Clyde.

A helicopter crew from Police Scotland's Air Unit was assisting ground crews in the search of a missing person, and spotted a person lying on the remote island on the river.

After landing on the island and providing immediate first aid to the person, a crew from Scottish Fire and Rescue assisted Police by recovering the person to dry land - before and ambulance crew took the person to hospital.

The incident happened yesterday morning near Wishaw.

A tweet from Police Scotland Air Unit said: "Assisted Lanarkshire Police yesterday morning with a missing person search on the River Clyde.

"Helicopter crew spotted a person lying on a remote island, landed on and provided immediate first aid.

"Scottish Fire and Rescue quickly helped recover the person to dry land for an ambulance."
