Emergency services shut major road after serious crash

A major road is currently closed by emergency services due to a serious crash.

Drivers are being warned to avoid the Daresbury Expressway in Runcorn, which is closed in both directions following a crash near to the Science Park.

The closure is in place from the A56 Chester Road to Pitts Heath Lane, Cheshire Live reports.

Local diversions are in place and the road is expected to remain closed into the evening.

ECHO reporter Oliver Clay is reporting from the scene, where there is a large emergency service response.

Cheshire Police tweeted to say the Daresbury Expressway had been closed in both directions following "a serious collision near to the Science Park".

Diversions are in place but motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

A police spokesman later coinfirmed: "Shortly after 10am police were called to reports of a serious collision on the Daresbury Expressway in Runcorn, near to the Science Park.

"Emergency Services are in attendance at the scene and the road is currently closed in both directions."

Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 618222.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We attended with two ambulances and an advanced paramedic. No one has been taken to hospital."
