Emergency services search for woman on the Quayside after reports of concern from member of the public

Police are searching for a woman after an emergency services incident on the Quayside.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene at the River Tyne after officers received reports of concern for a female early on Wednesday morning.

A search boat was also in attendance with divers on board the police boat was also at the scene.

But by the time emergency services arrived at the scene the woman was no longer there, police said.

Officers are now searching for her to check on her welfare.

Police could be seen stationed along the Newcastle bank of the Tyne outside the Cycle Hub, in Ouseburn, as well as outside the Mariners Wharf apartments.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 6.40am today (Wednesday) we were contacted by a concerned member of the public who reported a female on the High Level Bridge.

“Officers attended but the woman was no longer present at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the individual in question and check in on her welfare."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they had sent six resources to the scene.
