Emergency crews have sealed off a section of one of Scotland's busiest motorways following a late-night crash.
Police and fire crews scrambled to the M74 southbound carriageway on Thursday night.
The alarm was raised just before 8.30pm as reports of a smash came in, between junction six for Hamilton and junction seven for Larkhall.
As of 9.05pm the section of motorway was closed off to all motorists, Traffic Scotland confirmed.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service chiefs later confirmed the incident to the Record.
Crews were called to the scene at 8.25pm.
Four appliances attended and as of 10pm two appliances were still at the scene.
Officers stressed that the SFRS had no further information to disclose as this 'was a police matter'.
The number of vehicles and people involved, as well as the cause of the crash, is not known at this time.
SFRS representatives did not disclose whether or not ambulance crews were called.
A spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : "I can confirm that we are attending a road traffic collision on the M74.
"We were called to the scene at 8.25pm.
"Four appliances were discharged.
"At the moment two remain on the scene.
"We are unable to provide any further information on this matter as it is a police incident."
