Emergency services scrambled as man found dead in country park

Emergency services were called after a man was found dead in a country park in Leigh.

Police were first called to the scene at the Pennington Flash Country Park at around 10am on Sunday (December 11). Officers responded to reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

Paramedics were also scrambled, but the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. No further details have been released about him at this stage.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. On Sunday morning, pictures showed a number of police and ambulance vehicles stationed in a car park on Plank Lane near the country park.

Locals said that two pathways into the woodland were cordoned off by police officers. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 10am on Sunday 11 December GMP were called to reports of concern for welfare of a man at Pennington Flash Country Park, Wigan.

"Officers attended but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."
