Emergency services scramble to reports of body in the River Thames

Emergency services were called to Waterside Drive, in Surrey

Police rushed to the banks of the River Thames after reports of a body floating in the water on Saturday.

They were joined by firefighters and search and rescue with special drone patrols scanning the area in Walton-on-Thames from around 12.15pm.

They remain at the scene and have asked people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “We are currently in attendance along the towpath on Waterside Drive in Walton-on-Thames after reports of a body found in the river.

“Officers, along with other emergency services, will remain at the scene for the foreseeable future. Please avoid the area for the time being.”

Surrey Police have been approached for more information.
