Emergency services rush to tracks in East Lothian after person hit by train

A person has been struck by a train in East Lothian.

Scotrail confirmed the incident happened between Musselburgh and Longniddry in a tweet at 6.47pm on Friday.

Services between Edinburgh and Dunbar were suspended while emergency crews dealt with the situation.

A spokesperson for Scotrail said: “We are working closely with the emergency services.”

The rail operator is now organising alternative transport for those affected by delays on the railways as a result of the incident.

Scotrail tweeted at 9pm to say that the emergency services had declared it safe to run trains between Edinburgh and North Berwick but some disruption is still expected.

British Transport Police have been approached for comment.
