A multi-agency rescue mission successfully saved a life on Thursday evening after a person was spotted entering the water in Co Cork.
The alarm was raised after an individual was seen in the River Blackwater at Lovers Leap in Mallow.
Mallow Search and Rescue, the local Fire Brigade and gardai are all understood to have been called to attend the scene at around 7pm on Thursday evening.
Members from Mallow Search and Rescue launched a boat with the help of the Mallow Fire Service.
Volunteers travelled downstream where they were assisted by gardai in pointing out where the casualty was in the water.
They managed to recover the person, who is understood to have been a woman, and she was given first aid by the Fire Service.
The Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 115 also arrived at the scene and landed in the coursing field.
The woman was then airlifted to Cork University Hospital for further treatment.
A spokesperson for Mallow Search and Rescue added following the dramatic rescue: "We would like to thank Mallow gardai, The Irish Coast Guard and especially Mallow Fire Service helping us with the boat launch."
