Emergency services rush to Scots canal after reports of 'car in the water'

A major search operation is underway in Falkirk.

Mercy crews were called to Seabegs Road, Bonnybridge, shortly after 9:30pm following reports a vehicle had entered the Forth and Clyde Canal.

A number of police, fire and ambulance crews are currently in attendance - including search and rescue boats.

The area has been completely locked down and locals are being told to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Recuse Service confirmed they numerous resources at the scene, as well as specialist units.

A woman who lives on the street told Falkirk Live: “Loads of emergency service vehicles are down the road.

“I’ve counted at least 12 going past my house so far and have been hearing sirens and seen flashing lights all night.

“My neighbour was walking his dog along the canal tow path and a police officer told him that a car was in the water and he couldn’t walk any further.”
