Emergency services rush to scene in Motherwell following report of someone in water

Emergency services rushed to the Muirhouse area of Motherwell this morning (Thursday) following reports of a woman in trouble in the River Clyde.

Police, the ambulance service and the fire service all attended and a female was seen being helped to an ambulance “wrapped in towels”.

An onlooker who was working nearby told Lanarkshire Live: “It looked like a big operation from the emergency services. It looked as though a woman was in the water. There were police, fire units and dinghies.

"They escorted a lassie from the back of an ambulance, she was wrapped in towels and looked as if she’d been in the water.

“It looked as if it was behind Valley View and Margaret Drive in Muirhouse. You can reach the River Clyde down there behind the football park there.

“At least she is safe, but it looked like a large-scale response to the incident.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 7.40am, police received a concern for person call where a woman was in the water near Shields Road, Muirhouse. Emergency Services attended and the woman was checked over and assessed by paramedics.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Lanarkshire Live that they attended a police incident in the vicinity.
