Emergency services rush to reports of casualty near railway track

A casualty found near a railway line in Bolton caused major disruption this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty near the tracks between Bolton and Salford Crescent at around 12.55pm today (December 16).

A person was taken to hospital for treatment, a spokesman for the British Transport Police confirmed.

The incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, caused delays and cancellations between Bolton and Salford Crescent.

A spokesman for BTP said: “Officers were called to the line in Bolton at 12.55pm today (16 December) following reports of a casualty close to the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended and a person has been taken to hospital for treatment. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

A spokesman for Northern Rail said earlier today: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway between Bolton and Salford Crescent all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled.”

The service has since returned to normal, National Rail confirmed.
