One person taken to hospital after multi-vehicle crash which shut Scots motorway

One person has been rushed to hospital after a crash on a busy Scots motorway at rush hour this evening.

The incident, at around 6.40pm, closed the southbound carriageway between Junction 7 (Hilton) and Junction 8 (Arlary) near Milnathort in Perth and Kinross.

Traffic Scotland said use of the carriageway had been "restricted" while the crash was investigated.

One lane was re-opened to allow traffic to pass an hour later, with the road fully re-opened two hours after the smash.

Images shared on social media showed large tailbacks building up in the wake of the crash.

The roads operator said: "The M90 Milnathort Southbound carriageway remains restricted due to an RTC.

"Police are on scene. Please use an alternative route for now."

Details of injuries were unavailable, but it is understood that multiple vehicles were involved in the smash.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent appliances to the scene to assist with making vehicles safe following the crash.

A spokeswoman said: "Firefighters used stabilisation equipment, cutting gear, hard protection and a turfer to make a vehicle safe.

"We received the call at 6.40pm and the stop order came in at 7.23pm."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.35pm on Thursday, 18 November, officers were called to a road crash on the M90 near to Junction 7.

"One person has been taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. The road reopened at 8.40pm."
