Emergency services rush to major road incident near Glasgow's Charing Cross

Emergency services have raced to a major incident on a bridge at Glasgow's Charing Cross area.

Pictures show a heavy police, fire and ambulance presence outside the Scottish Power building on St Vincent Street.

St Vincent Street is has reopened westbound at Newton Street after closing for a short time.

The nature of the incident is unclear but police currently remain at the scene.

One driver told Glasgow Live that one lane was shut coming off the m8.

They said there were "three fire engines, three ambulances and four police vehicles at the scene."

It is unclear if there are any injuries or casualties at this time.

Officers say some of the occupants were taken to hospital, but it’s understood they didn’t suffer serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: “Emergency services were alerted to a road traffic collision in Newton Street, Glasgow, at 5.10pm on Sunday.

“Some of the occupants were conveyed to hospital for treatment.

“Officers are still at the scene and inquiries are continuing.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service have all been contacted for comment.
