Emergency services rush to major crash on M8 amid fears up to eight people injured

A busy stretch of the M8 has been closed after a one-vehicle crash this morning.

Emergency services raced to the M8 Westbound, near junction 31 at West Ferry, around 5am on Sunday to reports of a one-vehicle collision.

The road is in both directions from West Ferry to the St James Interchange with a diversion in place.

The eastbound carriageway has now reopened but the westbound carriageway remains closed.

Emergency services are currently still in attendance dealing with the incident.

Road users are being urged to avoid the area and take an alternative route.

There are unconfirmed reports that up to eight people are injured.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were currently in attendance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 5.05am following the report of a one vehicle road crash on the M8 Westbound and junction 31.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed in both directions.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
