Emergency services rush to Irish coast following tragic incident as man, 30s, dies

Tragedy struck on the coast of Ireland this week as a man in his 30s was pronounced dead near Spiddal after an incident in the water.

The alarm was raised shortly before 1.30pm on Thursday, December 29 when a man reportedly "got into difficulty" in the water off the coast of Spiddal.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene to conduct a search operation with the Coast Guard. A short time later, the man's body was recovered.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a file will be sent to the Coroner.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed: "Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted to an incident in the water off the coast of Spiddal, Co. Galway yesterday afternoon, Thursday 29th December 2022, shortly before 1.30pm.

"A male got into difficulty in the water. Following a search operation by Emergency Services, including Coast Guard, the body of the male (30s) was recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroner."
