Emergency services rush to find person who fell in canal

A search has been launched to find a person who had fallen into the Manchester ship canal in Warrington.

Cheshire police were called to reports a person had fallen into the water, near to the Northwich Road Swing Bridge, at around 10.15am on Friday, July 29. Emergency services including police, fire service and ambulance crews are all at the scene.

The search is ongoing to find the person, with a police helicopter, the under water search team and the fire service boat in action. The A49 Wilderspool Causeway (Swing bridge) is closed in both directions between B5156 Fairfield Road and Stafford Road while the search takes place.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: "At around 10.15am on Friday, July 29 police were called to reports that a person had fallen into the Manchester Ship canal near to the Northwich Road Swing Bridge.

"Police, Fire and ambulance are currently in attendance at the scene and a search is ongoing to locate the person. Officers at the scene are being supported by the police helicopter, the under water search team and the fire service boat.

"The A49, Northwich Road is currently closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident. Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1328865."
