Emergency services rush to Edinburgh street after two fires break out near pub

Emergency services rushed to Leith this morning after fires broke out in two properties.

Police are currently in attendance on Great Junction Street, close to the Tam O'Shanter pub and Betfred bookies. A pile of charred rubbish can be seen on the street, with police going in and out of a property.

Officers were called to the scene at around 5.30am in response to the fires, and they remain at the scene.

There have been no injuries and police enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Great Junction Street, Edinburgh following reports of fires at two properties at 5.30am on Monday, February 22. Emergency services remain in attendance.

"There were no injuries and enquiries remain ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5am on Monday, February 22 to reports of a dwelling fire affecting a stairwell at flats on Great Junction Street, Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire.

"We were also alerted to a second fire on Great Junction Street, at 5.17am, affecting a doorway.

"One appliance attended the scene to make the area safe.

"There were no reported casualties."
