EMERGENCY services rushed to Edinburgh city centre after a “suspicious package” was found near several Fringe venues.
Police were called to the scene late on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of the parcel on a street busy with tourists and festival goers.
Multiple police cars, a fire engine and a major response unit attended the scene but police said there is no wider risk to the area.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called around 11.40am on Wednesday August 9, to a report of a suspect package in the Teviot Place area of Edinburgh.
“Enquiries are ongoing. There is no wider risk to the public.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to assist emergency service partners at an incident on Teviot Place, Edinburgh at 11.51am on Wednesday August 9.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and a specialist resource vehicle to the incident.
“Crews left the scene at 2.20pm after ensuring the area was safe.”
