Emergency services rush to crash involving five vehicles on busy Edinburgh road

Emergency services have rushed to the scene of a road traffic collision on a busy Edinburgh road, as reports of a crash began to surface on social media.

Traffic Scotland posted an update on their official Twitter account at approximately 7:05pm, stating: "#A720 Baberton. Lane 2 (of 2) blocked eastbound at Baberton due to an RTC.

"Police are on scene. Traffic is busy in the area with ~20 minute delays."

Later on, the same account stated: "UPDATE 19:45 #A720 Baberton. Lane 2 (of 2) blocked eastbound at Baberton due to an RTC.

"Police are on scene. Traffic is busy in the area with ~20-30 minute delays from Hermiston Gait."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the eastbound A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, near the Baberton Junction, at around 6.20pm on Tuesday, 16 November, 2021 following a road traffic crash involving five vehicles.

“The Scottish Ambulance Service were contacted to attend and recovery arranged for some of the vehicles.”

In the photos posted by Traffic Scotland, vehicles can be seen stretching back for hundreds of yards, all with brake lights on as traffic moves slowly.
