Emergency services rush to busy Oldham street after man collapses

A man in his 50s had to be rushed to hospital last night after collapsing on a major road.

Emergency services scrambled to Ripponden Road, near Coleridge Road, shortly after 5.20pm on Thursday evening, to help the man.

The Manchester Evening News understands the man collapsed and hit his head on the pavement, before several passersby stopped to help and administer first aid whilst waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Witnesses reported seeing those who had stopped to help perform CPR on the man.

Part of the street was blocked for a short period of time whilst emergency services responded to the incident, which left the man needing treatment at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Ripponden Road at 5.20pm last night for a patient who had collapsed.

"We sent an ambulance and rapid response vehicle and transported a male in his 50s to Royal Oldham Hospital."

The man's current condition is not yet known, but emergency services have been contacted for an update.
