Emergency services respond after a child is hit by car in Bury

A major road in Bury was been closed tonight after a child was hit by a car.

The crash happened just after 8pm on Rochdale Old Road, close to where it becomes Bell Lane near the Fairfield area of the town.

Eyewitness said the child was struck by a car close to the junction with Willow Street.

It is not not known how seriously they have been hurt with police simply saying they were currently receiving medical treatment.

However several paramedics vehicles responded along with police cars and vans which immediately blocked off the road.

"Police were called at 20.22 hours this evening to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Rochdale Old Road and Willow Street, Bury" a GMP spokesman said.

Police say no arrests have been made (ASP)

"A child, who was a pedestrian, was injured by a vehicle and is currently receiving medical treatment.

"The driver was spoken to at the scene.

"No arrests have been made at this time.

"The investigation is ongoing."

The child is being treated by medics (ASP)

A roughly 100 yard stretch of Rochdale Old Road was taped off this evening as traffic officers dealt with the aftermath and carried out enquiries.

The road then re-opened shortly before 11:30pm.

Anyone with any information is asked to call GMP on 101 quoting incident number 2704 of 13/10/2020.
