Emergency services rescue man from Glasgow's River Clyde

A man has been pulled from the River Clyde after a huge rescue mission was launched in Broomielaw last night.

The drama unfolded around 10.40pm on Thursday after police received reports that a man had been spotted in the water close to the Kingston Bridge.

Emergency services, including police and fire crews, raced to the scene and several residents reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area.

The man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to be 'checked over', a spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed.

She said: "It was around 10.40pm on Thursday, July 4, police received a report of a man in the River Clyde near the Kingston Bridge.

"Emergency services attended and the man was recovered from the water.

"He was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for assessment."

It was the second major emergency response at the River Clyde yesterday. 

As previously reported on Glasgow Live, police launched a when they saw a man run and jump into the river after arrived to attend a disturbance on Clyde Street.

Despite efforts from police and other emergency services, he could not be rescued.

Police confirmed the man had died and police watchdog PIRC said they were investigating this incident.
