Emergency services remove body from water after passersby raise alarm in Cork city

A body was removed from the water near Cork city this evening after passersby sounded the alarm.

A number of people walking along the Lee Fields near the city spotted a body in the river and alerted gardai.

The Cork City Fire Brigade and gardai arrived at the scene and discovered the body of a man aged in his 40s.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem.

The death is not believed to be suspicious.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Bishopstown were alerted to a body in the water at Lee Fields, Carrigrohane, this afternoon, Sunday 26th July, 2020 at approximately 4p.m.



"Gardaí attended the scene assisted by fire brigade and removed the body of a man is his 40s, from the water. Body has since been transferred to Cork City morgue where a post mortem will take place and a file will be prepared for the Corners Court.

"Investigations ongoing."
