Man taken to hospital with serious head injury after crash on M74

A man has been rushed to hospital with a serious head injury following a crash on the M74, near Beattock.

Cops closed the road after responding to the one-car crash between Junction 15 and 16 around 3.30pm today.

The man was taken by ambulance to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area as traffic is queuing heavily on approach.

Traffic Scotland tweeted saying journey times may be longer than usual due to a "serious" road crash.

The fire service service confirmed they were initially in attendance but have since left the scene.

The road currently remains closed.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 3.30 pm on Friday, 19 February, 2021 police attended a one vehicle road crash on the M74 at Junction 15 southbound near to Moffat.

“One man has been taken to the QEUH by ambulance with a serious head injury.

“Police enquiries continue."
