Emergency services race to Scots beauty spot after kayakers dragged out to sea

A rescue operation was launched to save two kayakers who were dragged out to sea at a Scots beauty spot.

The pair had been in the water at Findhorn Bay in Moray for some time when they capsized and were dragged out by the tide.

A coastguard helicopter assisted in the rescue (HM Coastguard Moray)

Locals raised the alarm after the incident unfolded yesterday afternoon.

Coastguard rescue teams raced to the scene and saved the pair around 2.30pm.

Both kayakers were checked out by paramedics before being allowed to go home.

A coastguard rescue helicopter from Inverness also attended the incident alongside the Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation boat and Burghead and Nairn rescue teams.

Following the dramatic incident, HM Coastguard Moray issued key advice to anyone going out in the area.

In a statement they said: "As the weather improves, we are happy to see more more people out enjoying our coast. We have some key messages for kayakers and those out and about across the area:

"Always carry a means of calling for help and have it somewhere easy to reach.

"Always wear a personal floatation device.

"Check weather forecasts and tide times.

"As soon as the paddlers got into difficulty today, they were able to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard without delay.

"If you see anyone in difficulties at sea or along the coast, dial 999 for Coastguard."
